Frequently Asked Questions
Epoxy resin is a liquid that hardens after mixing resin and hardener. It can be coloured and transformed into any possible shape. Different types of epoxies have different maximum pour heights and contain different additives.
If you exceed the maximum pour height of a casting, a chemical reaction occurs where the resin overheats. This results in craters and uneven surfaces. The resin can also crack. Therefore, under all circumstances you must avoid exceeding the maximum pouring height.
In liquid form, resin should not come into contact with skin or eyes and should always be kept away from children and pets. After complete hardening, the material is not hazardous to health.
Products formulated without added UV stabilizers will begin to yellow over time.
The best way to polish epoxy resin is to use a special polish that contains ultra-fine abrasive particles that give the surface a shine.
Once the resin is fully cured, it can be sanded with an electric sander to shape it.
To mix resin and hardener together, it is best to use a stirrer that is flat on both sides. This will allow you to reach the material that sinks to the bottom or sticks to the side of the mixing jug.
If the liquid resin does not harden, this can be for several reasons. Mainly this is due to incorrect mixing ratio. The material does not harden if there is no or insufficient cross-linking between the resin molecules and the amines of the hardener. Mixing can also fail if the air humidity is too high or if the material is contaminated with other substances.
